Leadership Role Selection Process
Purpose:
The purpose is to nominate, ensure qualification, and select leaders to serve at Lighthouse Ministries. Our desire is to be Spirit-led, Biblical, and efficient in the process of selecting leaders.
Reasons for Needing This System:
The church body has had significant growth over the last two years. It is the desire of the church to have people in leadership positions that understand and support the vision of the church. Those nominated must believe and practice servant leadership, should seek to lead the church in the duties laid out by Christ in scripture, and have a good feel for how the church functions in its’ calling. The church desires to keep the core visions that Lighthouse was founded on, while following the Lord’s call into the future. Leaders are given the responsibilities of casting vision, caring for needs, building up the body, and standing on the truths found in God’s Word. This selection process should be done in a manner that takes the voice of the church and ensures qualification of the nominees. This process should also be done in an orderly and timely manner.
The nominating team will consist of the Pastor, Chairman of Elder Body, additional elder, a deacon, and a mature believer from the body. This team will be the primary group to gather names from the church family, ensure qualification, and discuss potential nominees. In the event that there is an inadequate amount of nominees for any reason, the nominating team can put forth additional names to be considered.
Process of Selection:
Beginning the third week in August, each calendar year, the nominating team will begin receiving the voice of the church on potential candidates. This process will continue until the second Sunday in September. During this time, the nominating team will meet with those potential candidates and biblical qualifications will be measured and followed. The potential candidates will be able to share their heart and sense of God’s leading. After all nominees are approved and met with, the nominating team will begin praying over, discussing, and seeking God’s will as to whom is to be list of nominees will be put before the church nominated based on qualifications and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. After this process is completed, the completed body, at which time a two-week period will ensue giving the body time to pray and seek the Lord’s will. This two week period will conclude with a final vote to select those who serve.
This process should be completed by the end of October and the newly appointed leaders will be encouraged to attend the functions of the teams they were chosen for right away. This will give them a feel for what is expected of them and how the team they will serve on operates before their actual term begins in January. If there is a position that comes down to two qualified and willing nominees, and one cannot be clearly selected to serve, the lot can be used to decide God’s will or a weighted vote.
Please note, those eligible for being nominated to a leadership role or suggesting a nomination must have attended Lighthouse for at least one year.
